Art_Indigo Dyeing with Wax & Wane

The girls had an amazing hands-on experience dyeing silk scarves with Claire and Ashton from Wax & Wane - a textile dyeing and education business in The Woodberry area. This workshop serves as a launch into the folk art unit that includes designing and making the International Bazaar crafts.

They were introduced to the chemistry, culture, and craft of indigo. The indigo plant can be found all over the world and must be modified to become soluble and used as a dye. The girls learned different types of shibori (resist dying techniques using clamps, rubber bands, string, and other tools) and paired that with the fold of their choosing to get unique patterns.
