Technology

The students in 2nd grade have been very busy in technology.  We began the year by discussing the acceptable use policy and comparing being safe in the real-world to being safe in an online community.  Next, we learned how to use Book Creator and wrote a digital autobiography.

Art: We Are All Artists!

Every student started the year by making a small 3x3 inch self-portrait. There are quite a few inherent challenges using small paper and black pen that help the girls get comfortable right way with the art quip: "Turn your uh-oh into an ah-ha."  The girls were encouraged to make a clear choice in their work and to be bold. The works are on display at the entrance of the art studio with the following questions to guide their observations: Which portraits show that the artist used line variation? Which portraits show that the artist made a discovery about herself, her art, or her materials? Which portraits show that the artist tried the blind contour technique to record her observations without looking? Which portraits show that the artist made a clear choice about line, shape texture, value, or space in her work? In art this year we will make art, look at art and talk about art! We are all artists!

Welcome to Second Grade!

The girls are off to a wonderful start in second grade! They are learning new routines, catching up with friends, and working hard with their new teachers. The girls are happy to be back at school and work very well together.  Here are some pictures of the girls in action!

We love second grade!

French: Joue avec moi!

Second grade French is off to a merveilleux start! We began the year by reviewing the days of the week, the numbers, and the months. In the picture below, you will see that the girls did a Connect the Dots activity. The numbers were in random order and they had to listen to me calling them out in French in order to complete the picture. Can you tell what they drew? C'est un kangourou.

This week, the girls received their Joue Avec Moi textbooks. They are learning to associate vocabulary words with visual symbols. The sentence below reads: "Lili voit un ballon jaune."

I'm looking forward to a wonderful year with your daughters! A la prochaine!
