Happenings in Second Grade

To celebrate our Baltimore unit the second grade went on a fabulous field trip to Fort McHenry and The Flag House.  We were lucky to have such a beautiful day as we learned many fascinating facts about our city's history. At the Flag House the girls were able to walk through Mary Pickersgill's house and see where she made some of the flag.  It was very interesting to see such an old house and hear about what life was like back then.  The girls also had a chance to play outdoor games that were popular during the 1800s.  At Fort McHenry we had lunch outside overlooking the fort. We were able to explore many different areas in the fort and listened to a special presentation about the flags that fly at Fort McHenry today. Here are some pictures of the girls in action!

During the flag presentation at Fort McHenry, the girls (and Mrs. Roessler!) got to catch a flag that was being lowered. They loved it!
