Busy Third Graders!

From folding paper into given shapes to using place value to solve problems, third graders are expanding their understanding of math.

Recess smiles say it all.
Third graders "make new friends and keep the old."

Busy in Tech

The girls have been busy in tech this month!  We began with a review of the app PicCollage and used this to change the image on the lock and home screens.  Next, the girls learned how to join and post in Edmodo, a learning management system, as well as how to sign into Google Drive and create folders.  This year your daughter will be adding work to her Drive.  Directions on how to access this will be sent home in the future.  We have also been learning about acceptable use, copyright, and digital citizenship.  Finally, the girls used the Popplet app to create a web with images from CCSearch.

Fun Times in PE!

We began the year reviewing tagging games and doing cooperative activities.  We are now enjoying our soccer unit.  The girls are working on dribbling, passing, and shooting while improving their eye-foot coordination.  As you can see, third graders may choose to take their jumpers off for PE!

Music:  Rhythmic Building Blocks

The girls are working in groups to brainstorm a list of baked goods that fit our 6 rhythmic building blocks in duple meter!

Here are some of the ones we came up with:
cake pop
sugar cookie
bran muffin
pie
loaf of bread
cake

Ask you daughter to clap and say these rhythms to you!

Art: Perspectives

All the girls started the year with an exploration of various materials and then connected their work to their grade level theme.  Third grade's theme is "Perspectives." You can see the long list of connections they made and why it is such a relevant theme for this grade level! Our future units will explore a range of materials, genres, artists, and concepts related to their theme.  The overarching reflection question for the year is: How do our ideas and works fit into the trends and eras in art over time?
