100 Days Smarter!!

We celebrated our 100th day of school this week.  The girls are so proud of all that they have learned thus far this year.  We continue to observe and learn about weather.  Ask your daughter to sing The Water Cycle song for you.  In social studies, we are reading about historic heroes.  The girls really enjoy listening to and reading biographies.

French: 100 word challenge

In honor of the 100th day of school, each first grade class came up with a list of 100 words that they have learned in French.  All together the first grade girls came up with 150 words that they know so far.  I wonder if you can figure out what any of them mean.  Here is the list:

Art: Kindness Stories

First grade has begun an exploration of the human figure and how it can be used in art to tell stories. The girls have been sharing their own stories of a time when they showed kindness or were shown kindness. They identified the important action in the story by using a frozen pose with a partner. 

The girls also drew themselves using ovals, and are now constructing a jointed puppet using small, medium, and large ovals. This model will help them create narrative drawings and short films to tell their stories!

Back and Busy!!

The girls were happy to be back in school today in time to celebrate winter birthdays.  In math, place value is still the focus.  They are becoming experts at counting tens and ones!   February is full of holidays for us to learn about.  Check your daughters' folders to see all that we have been up to.
